Waterfalls, Glens and Sunsets

sarahsmall  Me and Ian went for a a wee jaunt the other day. We had no real idea where to go and as I was still suffering a bit from a particularly random and weird perceptional migraine (including inability to control volume, losing words and replacing them with ‘third’ and pixelated vision!) I really wasn’t much help. In the end we headed up to Glen Quaich (named such as it has the shape of a Quaich, which is an old Scottish drinking vessel, the cup of friendship) . After a little while of trying to remember how to get there we were on our way. On the way we stopped off at the falls at Buchanty Spout which were somewhat overgrown but very photogenic.

Though did get a few midgie bites! Then up to Quiach. At the bottom of the glen we traversed a hillside to find a waterfall which was a bit disappointing as was more a water trickle at this time of year, and got more midgie bites. Then it was up the Glen on the narrow very turny, don’t use in winter conditions, road. Do love that road. And on the top was a truely wonderful sight, the sun sinking behind the mountains and a panoramic view of the mountain ranges which seemed to stretch on forever, layer of mountainsides etched out in the dying light (sorry for the wax lyrical but was absolutely beautiful) and I  felt very lucky to be Scottish. No special settings or anything were required for the photos as nature was doing all the work.

Just a pity the camera could never capture exactly how beautiful it was, but I tried my best to capture it. Then it was on down the glen and back towards home, though we did have to pull in at Ballinluig as the light over the river Tummel was so lovely. However the midgies really liked it too and some of  the millions of them buzzing round had a wee nibble on us. But insect bites aside a great and very successful night.

iansmallWhat a beautiful sunset we were treated to! The journey through Glen Quiach, over the hills and down into Kenmore is always a fun one but I’ve never seen anything like the skies on Wednesday night.
