Another local photographic competition has come to our attention:

This year SEPA will once again be attending the Royal Highland Show on 21-24 June 2012, along with our SEARS partners. To mark the event, we are launching a photo competition based on the theme of the tent which is ‘Valuing Scotland’s natural environment’.

So we are on the look out for your pictures of the Scottish environment. It can be photos of anything… related to our beautiful environment, from woodland, beaches, mountains, rivers or farmland, the choice is yours!

For your chance to win one of our fabulous prizes, please post your photographs on our Facebook wall with details of where the picture was taken.

The prizes are:
First prize -£100 Amazon voucher and a pair of Royal Highland Show tickets.
Second prize -£50 Amazon voucher and a pair Royal Highland Show tickets.
Third prize – A pair of Royal Highland Show tickets.

We are a fan of Historic Scotland here at PK and we want to share their photo competition with you lot!

Muckmedden is a new event and although features some tough courses it also boasts “However, you don’t have to treat Muckmedden like a race if you don’t want to – if you just want to ride the best  trails in Pitmedden Forest without getting lost - no problem.”

The event takes place on 22nd April 2012 and the action should start about 10.45am.

The main screen of Mi Perthshire on iPhone

Mi Perthshire is a website and app for smartphones and according to their site – “Whether you live in Perthshire or you are a visitor, we have great special offers from fantastic Perthshire eating, leisure and entertainment businesses. Be the first to find out about new offers by downloading the FREE Smartphone app (Available on iPhone and Android), and following us on Facebook and Twitter. We let you know about the best Perthshire restaurants, things to do in Perthshire Scotland, accommodation offers, health and beauty, family days, adventure activities, live music, theatre, cinema listings, comedy, sporting events… we have it all!”

The app is very well laid out and navigating it was easy as pie. There are main heading to choose from – eating, leisure, entertainment, events and Mi Monday. Mi Monday is a list of special offers that are available to users on (yes you guessed it) Mondays.

Viewing deals on the map

As well as these categories, there is also the option to list the offers by proximity or on a map of the area. Handy for visitors to the Fair City!

Clicking into an offer leads you to a page describing the deal plus a list of ways to get in touch with the place, share it with your friends on a certain social media website, or even call a taxi.

Turning the phone on its side has no effect on the viewing of the app, something they may want to make use of in future updates.

It all feels a bit empty at the moment but as a recently launched site I wouldn’t expect anything else. I’m sure in these hard times that local businesses will see the benefit of such a service and will be more than happy to get on board to boost their trade.

They only ask for your name and where you live so don’t panic!
